It’s been a hectic year so far. It’s also been a silent one on the music front but not for lack of trying. This post is meant to be a little status update and a bit of self-confirmation that, indeed, I’m going to finish things. So, here we go. My plan as of April, 2019.
The last thing I really “published” was a track called Memories. I started this back in 2004; one of the very first tunes I came up with that didn’t hurt the ears. In early 2018, when I was a bit lost with my music, I dusted it off and finished it. Since then, nothing. That’s nearly a year without publishing a single thing. I’m aware that it’s not as if people are clamoring for new ones, but to me, it’s more of a personal goal. Between that time, I have been working on music and I feel like a picture of some upcoming songs is finally forming. While I’m at it, why not share the “tentative but not-so-tentative probably going to remain the same until I decide to change it again” titles?
Yes, only three. Those are the three where I feel I’ve been making the most headway and I feel I can actually wrap them up in a feasible amount of time. In a previous post, I talked about how my harddrive is full of unfinished tracks; trust me, I wish I had enough time to give each track some TLC, but for now, just three. Despite it only being three, I’m pretty happy with the variety they have: some dark, some hopeful, some nostalgia. I can’t wait to share them, I’m just not sure when that will be.
While I’m busy plucking away at new stuff, I think it would be fun to start digging up some older tracks that I’ve “finished” and probably won’t return to. While I’d love to go back to every song I’ve ever done and polish them up to today’s standards, it’s unlikely I’ll have the time for that. Instead, I’ve been tossing around the idea of “Abandoned Archives”. Essentially, this will be an ongoing series where I publish and old track or two and maybe write a little bit about them. The key here is that I want to draw a distinction between these old tunes and my new work; hence the name “Abandoned Archives.” I’ve been hesitant about it because, well, artists don’t like to show their unpolished work. It’s often raw, crude, and maybe a bit too personal. But hey, what good is it doing on a shelf in my drive?
Can’t wait to start!
